To allow the club to meet the requirement to legally stage events we need volunteers to carry out tasks for which we will provide training opportunities.

Volunteers at track maintenance dayAt each event we require Marshals, First Aiders, Clerks of the Course, Scrutineers and Site Security. It is not possible for use to run events safely without the active participation of all Guardians and parents of riders attending events. In addition to the regular events we also rely on volunteer assistance in track and Balbackie site and access route maintenance, public and promotional events such as Prince Trust and community events and a number of management and administrative areas. Volunteer member assistance in this work is invaluable to the club, the riders and the communities within which we work (and ride).

We offer training opportunities for our volunteers and some of these - First Aider training, for instance, provide a valuable life and community skill. Our modern approach to volunteering provides benefits to all those involved - both the giver and receiver of the services volunteered. We are working closely with Volunteer Scotland and other organisations who have a wealth of knowledge and skill to offer.

Volunteer Award 2007

The Club Volunteer of the Year Award goes this year to Ali Jones. Many of you will have met and seen Ali helping out at our events. scrutineering, marshalling and other task needing done. What you may not know is that Ali is the main man when it comes to preparation and grading of Balbackie tracks. With his JCB, hard work and ready smile Ali puts in many hours every year to make sure our tracks are just right on the day.  He also travels many miles, sometimes half way across Scotland after long shifts, just to make sure that he can be there to get the job done. When you next see him make sure you shake him by the hand and thank him for his hard work. A well deserved award for a job well done! Thanks Ali.
