Never give your address or post code if asked for by phone. Once you have confirmed identity (request a landline number -this is a good way) then still beware.
Never invite any buyer to your home to view your machine. If you do intend to do this make it clear that they must bring a form of identity with them (driving licence or passport) and a photo will be taken of them. Any genuine buyer will be happy to do so.
Never Allow test rides without full cash payment
Do:
Use a neutral venue where you can guarantee your safety, take some friends with you.
Inform buyers that photo ID and proof of address is required when meeting - honest buyers will not mind.
Make sure you have the money before parting with your bike. Even if buyer offers to leave a car or other item as a guarantee.
Do Not:
ACCEPT A CHEQUE AND WAIT FOR IT TO CLEAR WITHOUT MAKING SURE YOU HAVE SEEN SOME FORM OF IDENTITY (DRIVING LICENCE OR PASSPORT)
Please do NOT use BALBACKIE as a meeting venue for buying or selling a machine.
Be aware:
Be aware to check that you are not being followed home.
Take any suspicious van or car registration details and description of any person involved.
Always lock your bike even if in a Garage. If possible park a car in front of garage doors.
Extra Notes:
It is advisable for you to start using a Security Chain and Padlock when your bike is not in use at an event, even at Balbackie, and more so if we are visiting other venues.
While we have Security Officers at all events, it is everyone's responsibility to be on the look out and to report anything of suspicion.
