Carbon Offset Launch
2006 Saw the launch of a new initiative by the club to offset our carbon footprint. This initiative is a demonstration of our commitment to looking after the environment in which we live.
Unloading the whips
These
were gathered from the old Ravenscraig steelworks site which is
shortly destined for urban regeneration.
After a short training session on how to plant the young saplings it
was not long before they were all safely in the ground.
On a damp October day, with the support of the North Lanarkshire
Countryside Ranger Service, Alison from the Green Gym Project. and
young members of the NLSQBC, 65 Silver Birch Whips were planted in
the grounds of Strathclyde Country Park.
The day started with the club setting up a stand at the Princes
Trust event at Stratchclyde Park on the 1st of October. During the
afternoon a contingent of members, adult volunteers and park rangers
set off to get planting....

The
tree planting was fun for all concerned and a great example of how
engaging with young people can encourage active participation in
projects which are of benefit to the wider community. Many thanks to
all those taking part and we look forward to seeing you again at the
main planting events. Check the calendar f0r more information

If you are a non member and would like to support us in our
environmental work why not subscribe and we will buy and plant trees
on your behalf - all donations gratefully received. If you are a
company or organisation looking to putting out green shoots contact
us - we would be happy to work with you or plant on your behalf.
